Nepal 2019 - Day 6 - Surke to Namche Bazaar Pt 2
Surke to Namche Bazaar
The picturesque double suspension bridge was a good rest point before the climb. You're sure to be behind some trekkers who had yet to get their feet under those concerning heights and dangling structure. Then our time was up. We enjoyed our time conversing with each other and the occasional porter taking a rest with 50-70kg of gear.
Most of the porters used a basket that would be filled with essentials and carried a support stick they used to rest their pack on. Very old school very simple and elegant way for ferrying loads, didn't make it any easier though.
Mules mostly disappear taking the lower path. The few pack animals we saw at this point were usually Yaks and I liked them more for some reason, they seemed smarter and less bothered about the people around. Halfway up the trail, we ran into another permit checkpoint. There was a horde of people waiting for a single officer to stamp their permit. Just a very stupid system. As climbs go, this was a fabulous one, complete with camaraderie with fellow trekkers on their bucket list hike, friendly porters and some amazing views of big mountains as we climbed towards Namche Bazaar at 12000ft.
